Always a warm welcome at the Blue Bell Inn
Always a warm welcome at the Blue Bell Inn

Over 30 years at the Blue Bell Inn for David Kinsella.

In 1981 successful amateur jockey, and local legend David Kinsella, decided to branch out and become the landlord of the Blue Bell Inn, Ingleby Cross, North Yorkshire. David and his wife Audrey have run the Blue Bell together ever since, 365 days per year - even opening each Christmas day to offer the locals an opportunity for a festive lunchtime drink!

As you would expect with David's background, there is still quite an equestrian thread running through the Blue Bell, and any visitor wishing to discuss the racing world will find a listening ear anytime. Son Philip Kinsella is also now himself a successful jockey, and daughter Helen also works in the racing industry.

The Bluebell InnThe Blue Bell Inn nestles at the foot of the picturesque Cleveland Hills on the fringe of the North York Moors National Park, close to Herriot country, Thirsk, Stokesley and Northallerton, and is a superb location for any visitor wishing to explore the area.

The Blue Bell itself has quite a famous history, originally a coaching inn, it was located on the north side of the old Stokesley Road, and deemed by the local estate owner to be causing an obstruction preventing his horses getting a good run up the hill to haul logs to his sawmill. Not to be defeated he arranged for the Blue Bell to be dismantled and moved, brick by brick, and relocated to its current position on the south side of the road. David confirms he isn't planning on moving it again just yet!!

As you'd expect from a traditional family run ‘free house' establishment, the Blue Bell Inn offers a warm and friendly welcome and proprietors David and Audrey Kinsella are always available to make sure your stay, no matter how long or short, is a fulfilling and pleasant one. Being located directly on Wainwright's Coast to Coast Walk, it is a firm favourite with long distance walkers looking for a comfortable bed for the night.

David also offers overnight livery facilities as he says:

"To be an Inn you need to offer food, drink and a place to sleep for both horse and rider."

David has been advertising with Stayin the North York Moors from the day we launched our websites in 2005 and confirms he has received a constant stream of enquiries and bookings.
